For a low monthly subscription fee, users can install Microsoft 365 on up to five devices, which can include your computer, tablet, or smartphone. Microsoft 365 includes the main programs you’d find in Microsoft Office, as well as OneDrive and Skype. Previously, Skype used to be a standalone product that required a fee to access higher functions. By default, Outlook 2016 for Mac doesn't automatically download pictures or photos in email messages if the images are stored on the Internet. However, you can turn off this preference or choose to download Internet pictures only from your saved contacts. Never settle for less than reliable, granular restores of Office 365. In a few clicks you can restore Office 365 mailboxes and emails, SharePoint sites, documents, libraries and lists, OneDrive for Business accounts, files and folders and Microsoft Teams channels, tabs and settings. Office 365 is comprised of online apps that require an internet connection along with traditional desktop applications that work offline, with Office 365 you get the best of both worlds. Hosting your files 'in the cloud' allows you to access them from multiple devices, share, and collaborate with other faculty and students. In addition, Office 365 offers state-of-the-art communications capabilities with built-in video conferencing (Skype), chat conversations (Teams), online polls and surveys (Forms), and streaming video channels (Stream) to host video content.

The Office 365 suite of programs are cross-platform with apps available for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and with browser access available via Chromebooks. Downloads for the Office 365 ProPlus desktop applications are available at the ITS Collaboration and Communication download page here.

Sign-in to Office 365 at EIU

To sign-in to Office 365 at EIU, go to the EIU homepage and click on the PantherMail link in the top-right side of the title bar. PantherMail uses Microsoft Outlook (part of Office 365) for the EIU email system. You will use yourEIU NetID and password to sign-in. Once logged-in to PantherMail, you will see the 'App Launcher' similar to the one below, the app launcher includes Outlook (email) along with many of the other Office 365 apps. To see all the apps available to you select 'Explore all your apps.'

Getting Started with Microsoft Teams at EIU

Microsoft Teams has quickly become the goto app for group work for online communication and collaboration at EIU. Microsoft Teams is the digital hub for teamwork in Office 365. Keep all of your team's chats, meetings, files, and apps together in one place. Communicate with anyone on the team through chats, audio, video calls, and instant “Meet Now” sessions. In these times of remote teaching, learning, and work Microsoft Teams is here to help everyone at EIU communicate and collaborate during these challenging times. Everyone at EIU is just a click or touch away from communicating andcollaborating with anyone at EIU and beyond.

Need to record a PowerPoint or make a Screen Recording?

Did you know PowerPoint has built-in recording tools? As a faculty, staff, or student at EIU you already have what you need to record a slide show or make a screencast using PowerPoint. If you do not already have PowerPoint installed on your Mac or PC you can download it for free as part of EIU's Office 365 subscription. The video below walks you through signing-in to PantherMail (Office 365) along with setting up a OneNote notebook using the cloud-based storage space called OneDrive (three minutes). Each student is provided 1 TB of OneDrive cloud storage while attending EIU.

Should you download it?

Yes, you should, if you don’t mind dropping some cash. If you want access to all the Microsoft Office programs, including Skype and cloud, then Microsoft 365 is the right choice for you.
